LEVX® is a highly efficient, economically achievable and environmentally advantageous transportation system featuring fully automated platforms, magnetically suspended over a fixed guideway. Platforms are moved along the guideway by a unique non-contact propulsion system.

 

 

Platforms are passively levitated above rails incorporating the basic principles of magnetic repulsion. This magnetic suspension system consists of powerful, steady state, room temperature permanent magnets imbedded within the track rails providing a uniform polarity along its length and permanent magnets positioned on the underside of each platform to oppose those in the rails in a unique configuration, achieving stable levitation at very wide air gaps and providing for smooth, vibration free transport. The testing of several generations of full-scale prototypes has established a new standard for transportation efficiency and simplicity and therefore an economic viability thought previously unattainable.

The magnetic suspension system utilized in LEVX® provides the key to overall system efficiency resulting in lowered operating costs as well as reduced maintenance issues. The LEVX® magnetic suspension eliminates static drag associated with weight bearing wheels, thereby removing the physical limiting factor of adhesion from the primary propulsion and braking systems.

A unique non-contact propulsion system is preferred to accelerate and decelerate LEVX® platforms. The system produces a forward (or backward) force by excluding magnetic flux from the linear torque rail in the guideway. This is just the opposite of conventional linear induction motors, used in some mag-lev and monorail systems, where waves of electromagnetic pulses produce magnetic flux which is then imbedded in a reaction rail in order to create propulsive forces. Magnetic drag is an unwanted by-product of this embedding action producing a negative effect on overall system efficiency. LEVX® propulsion generates no magnetic drag.
